Topic: FTP tool distribution with MS Access Application

I inherited a client Access application, due to a merger, and plan on enhancing the app to ftp XML files to and from a ftp server instead of rewriting it. It appears the ftp tool will fit our needs, but I am concerned about how it is deployed with the Access mdb file.

1. Is this a practical implementation of this tool? It appears to work great with the tests I have done.
2. How is the tool distributed with a MS Access implementation? I assume there would be a separate install.
3. Will there be any licensing issues?

Make some tests on a machine that does not have a license. Or copy your license key somewhere safe and delete it for testing. If Access is always in development mode (which I think it is) then you will need to export the key to your targets.

Distribution is the same as for other environments. Read "Distribution" in the Online Help for details.

What does it take to export the key to the targets?

The online help indicates that the license would have to be registered for each client that installs the license.

If it is as easy as copying a file, we will most likely purchase the product, otherwise we will have to analyze our risk of user installation issues.

We want to limit our exposure to installation complications for our users.

First of all, I am not even sure that you need to export the license key. That's a last resort if Access doesn't include the key in the project.

If you have to export it, it's just a matter of having your setup program write a value to the registry.

If you don't have a setup program, then you can use regedit to export the key to a file. You can then give your user that file and tell him/her to click on it.
