I've downloaded/installed the trial version for PowerTCP Ping Component (Active X). I've rebooted. When I compile my VB 6 project, VB chokes on the licensing message "A license for PowerTCP Ping Component was not found on this machine...".

What's the resolution?

Thanks,
Mark

Hello,

If you're using Windows Vista or above, you will need to install the component 'As Administrator' from the right-click context menu in order for the trial license to be installed correctly.

Nope, I'm using XP SP3.

And I'm told by my IT dept that my user already has admin rights.

FYI - the trial versions of the other Dart products all installed properly and I was able to compile w/o further issues.

I was able to locate the serial number for our purchased copy of PowerTCP Ping Enterprise for Active X. I've now registered it on my machine. Recalling the registration screen, it shows that product as registered on my machine. But I still get the same licensing message when I compile my VB 6 project.

What is out-of-whack?

Hello,

Thank you for your patience; I've just tested your issue and have been unable to reproduce it. It's possible that the license installed on your machine is preventing the trial license from being installed, and the license may be invalid for your machine.

Please run regedit, and under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER, navigate to Software/Dart/PowerTCP/License and delete anything listed as 'Ping Enterprise Component'. You should then be able to either install the trial and use the trial license correctly, or install your already owned license.

The problem was needing to install the trial version of PowerTCP for Winsock Active X. Even though PowerTCP for Webserver installs dartutil.dll, it must be a later version because the Webserver version (dated Jan 18, 2012) is almost 2 years more recent than the version that comes with Winsock Active X (dated Feb 19, 2010). And evidently the later version was what was causing VB to choke.

Thanks.

Hi,
I think there may be some confusion here over which control you are using, and which product it belongs to.

The "Ping" component that you originally mentioned is part of the Winsock for ActiveX product, and therefore requires a Winsock license to be installed on the development machine.

The Ping Enterprise for ActiveX product includes an alternative "Ping Enterprise" control, which is a high-performance Ping control.
Installing the license for this product would not help with the Winsock's Ping control (part of DartUtil.dll).

You are exactly right - we were confused based on the product name. Since our project was depending on "Dart Dns, Ping Controls" (i.e. DartUtil.dll), we thought the Dart product we needed as PowerTCP Ping Enterprise for Active X rather than Winsock.
