Our development server was recently updated to Visual Studio 2010. There were no problems with the PowerWeb File Update component publishing existing web sites. We did not add new controls from within Visual Studio 2010. We recently updated the PowerWEB File Upload version to the latest version. When we try to add new controls (Upload, Progress Panel, or Upload Manager) to an aspx page, a huge block of xml like text is loaded which begins with "<soap-env:envelope".  When I select design mode, VS10 displays the huge block of text as well and not the upload control. It looks like PowerWeb File Upload does not work within VS 2010. Do you know when a version will be released which supports 2010? Our subscription will expire in a few months and it looks like we may need to continue a subscription in order to receive VS 2010 support?

Hi,
I am unaware of any issues with using the controls in VS.NET 2010, and I am unable to reproduce the problem you describe.

Can you provide any additional information on how I could reproduce the issue?

Does this happen in brand new projects (just inserting the controls on the default webform) as well?

Thanks,

Thanks for your response Ken. I have tried this on new, projects, existing projects, and the sample project with the same result. I have tried this on new aspx files and existing aspx files with the same result.

Initially, I thought that it was the latest version of PowerWeb File Upload, but that is not the case. I tried it on another web server which had version 1.3.1.0 with the same results. On this server, we ran windows updates and there was a VS10 update, but it did not have any effect.

I also installed the latest version of PowerWeb on another web server which did not oringinally have PowerWeb on it. This server still had Visual Studio 2008 on it, and it did not have any problems.

Any ideas what could be causing the problem? I am going to include the complete text which is put on an aspx page when I try place the Upload control, but it gave me a message too long. I will try a new message to post the text.

Hi,
I found two references to similar problems (with other controls) when I searched the web.

In the first, it is suggested that "resetting" VS 2010 settings will fix the problem.

In the second, the issue was fixed (VS 2008 this time) but there is no real indication of what fixed it (VS was restarted, the machine was rebooted, VS was restarted again, and magic).
http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/aspnet-ajax/general-discussions/can-t-drag-drop-controls.aspx

Do you have problems with any other controls, or is it just the File Upload controls?

I did try inserting the control without having a license or trial installed, but that produced the expected error, and not the XML block you see.

I can say that it is not a common problem (this is the first I've seen it), so it is probably something specific to the way your VS is setup.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what that is, so I am not sure what to suggest, other than playing around with VS.NET settings.

You can send the simple project to support@dart.com, and maybe something will jump out when I open it up.
Please make sure you zip the project files if you do send them in.

Thanks,

Thanks for your help. Problem solved. I reset the VS 2010 settings which took away the PowerWEB tab in the tool box. I added the PowerWEB controls back by adding a tab manually and adding them back by selecting the dll. Now, Everything works great.

I had some issues with getting the Visual Studio Integration module to add back the toolbox tab, but doing it manually worked.

Thanks again for your help.
