We have V1.0.4.0 of the Power TCP Sockets. I have converted the Ping Client sample app to VS2008 .Net Framework V3.5. I compiled the ping client app, created a installer app and installed the ping client app on a Windows 7 Enterprise laptop we are testing on. When I click the Start Ping button on the ping client app on the Windows 7 machine, I get the following error:

An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions.

I then added a firewall inbound rule to allow ICMPv4 packets as per your instructions on the Windows 7 and Vista document (dart.com/vista.aspx) but I still receive the same error. Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks for the question...

The product that you're using uses a raw socket to build an ICMP Ping request. Under Vista and Windows 7 Microsoft saw fit to restrict this ability to applications that are "run as Administrator".

The PowerTCP Ping Enterprise product, however, has no such restriction. We would suggest you either upgrade to Ping Enterprise or run your application "as Administrator".

Thank you very much for using our products.

Mike, I tried "run as Administrator" and it worked.

We also have the Ping Enterprise so I will try that app as well.

Thanks.
