posted November 28, 2007 5:51 AM I'm sure there's a simple explanation for this, but... I'm trying to get SSL to work with the Dart HTTP control. I used the "Page Fetch" VB6 sample program to hit a web server created with the "Web Server" VB6 sample program. I enabled SSL on the sample server app by creating a test certificate with Certificate Manager and choosing it in the "Web Server" config. When I hit the page with "Page Fetch", I receive error -2146869244 "Miscellaneous error". The same thing happens when I use my own client application (using the HTTP control) to hit my own server application (using the WebServer control). When I use "Page Fetch" to hit an arbitrary secure Internet web page, it works fine. For both the "Web Server" sample, as well as my own server app, I created a test certificate using your Certificate Manager application, as I mentioned. I even set the Security property to ignore every certificate problem. Yet, I keep getting this error. When I hit my web server app (the one with which I use the WebServer control and the test certficate) using FireFox and HTTPS, it works fine (after display a couple of dialogs fretting about unknown CA of the certificate). Same with the "Web Server" sample. Standard HTTP also works fine. Interestingly enough, Internet Explorer cannot connect to either my server app or the "Web Server" sample using HTTPS, only standard HTTP. It does work with other arbitrary secure Internet sites. I'm starting to think its an Internet Explorer/WinInet problem. My version of Internet Explorer is 6.0.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519. Is there some update or another that you know of that I may be missing? I know I haven't upgraded to IE7 yet, but I seriously doubt that's the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Paul |

posted November 28, 2007 7:34 AM I broke down and installed IE7. Now the error changes to: 12157 "The application experienced an internal error loading the SSL libraries" which I guess is better than "Miscellaneous Error". However, doing a web search on it didn't help much. I checked IE7 Internet Options/Advanced and SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 are all checked. I also cleared the SSL State (Content tab). I even verified that FIPS was disabled in my policy settings. Still does the same thing: SSL connects work from Firefox, but not from IE or even from "Page Fetch". Any other obscure settings anyone can think of to check? Thanks, Paul |

posted November 28, 2007 4:00 PM Hello Paul, It seems to me an issue with the installed Certificate. Try importing any other certificate or create a new certificate. Have a nice day. Best Regards, Amit |

posted November 28, 2007 4:32 PM I've created three different certificates using the Certificate Manager. I don't have a verified certificate to import, as we don't currently have one. I tried picking one of the ROOT certificates that were listed, but the WebServer control didn't like them, only the test certificates I created. All the certificates I created work just great in Firefox, just not IE nor apparently anything that uses WinInet for SSL. Paul |

posted November 28, 2007 5:05 PM Incidentally, it does appear to be a problem with this machine only, as another machine can hit the server with IE and it works OK. Any idea what could be causing this? |

posted November 29, 2007 4:55 PM Hello Paul, I would request you to please try installing a trial certificate from Thawte. You may also use IIS to create the certificate request and then install the certificate. Do let us know whether this works for you or not. Best Regards, Amit |
