posted May 31, 2000 11:57 AM We had an application using the trial version of PowerTCP tools. When we installed it on a client machine we got a nag message. Now we have the PowerTCP tools registered and installing on client machine is fine (no nag messages). However we have a couple of machines where the trial version expired, on these machines, when we install the new application with the registered control, we still get the message saying the trial version has expired. How do we get these machined to work? |

posted May 31, 2000 12:04 PM This all depends on what the program was written in and how it was written. If it was written in VB and you did not use CreateObject, then you just need to recompile the executable on the machine that has the license installed. If you wrote it in something else, then there is a README that explains what to do. |

posted May 31, 2000 12:10 PM We are using VB, we do not use CreateObject. This problem happens only for machines that had a trial version that expired. If we did an install on a machine that had a trial version that did not expired everything works fine. |

posted May 31, 2000 12:14 PM That's because "doing an install" resets the trial. In another 30 days, you'll get the same message. If, on the other hand, you are installing a licensed copy, then you are probably violating the license agreement. All you need to do is compile the app on a licensed machine and use that EXE on the unlicensed machines. |

posted May 31, 2000 12:36 PM I am compiling an EXE on the licensed machine and I am putting in on the unlicensed machine. I do that and I get a message saying the trial version has expired. I only get this message on machines that had a trial version that expired. If it was a machine with a trial version that did not expire, things work fine. The problem is not with the way I create the EXE, its with the machine with the expired trial version, only those machines do not work. |

posted May 31, 2000 12:44 PM OK things are getting pretty confused now. First of all let's uninstall the trials from all the machines that are giving you problems. Then delete the following Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dart\PowerTCP\License Now install your EXE and run it. If you get a nag, then the EXE is using a control that it does not have a license for. If that happens, run Dartnostics.exe on the other machine and send the report to my e-mail address (DON'T POST IT!) |

posted May 31, 2000 1:45 PM Removing the key from the registry solved the problem. Thank you. |

posted May 31, 2000 1:47 PM I doubt it. It probably just postponed it for another 30 days. |

posted March 30, 2001 4:50 AM I am having the exact same problem. By removing the key it got postponed for another 30 days. I am using a licensed version of the MailTools. What must I do apart from removing the registry key? |

posted March 30, 2001 8:59 AM If you get a trial message it means that you did not compile the app on a licensed machine, or you are creating a licensed control in a way that does not provide the proper license info. If you are still having trouble, please start a new thread as this one is getting long! Thanks, Tony Priest Dart Tech Support |
