Appologies if this is super simple newbie stuff, but as it turns out I'm a super simple newbie with web stuff.

I'm using the pagefetch example which came with the web control. I/m running it without any changes, trying to fetch this page:

 http://66.253.59.242/SSI/configuration_info.htm

(it's a printer configuration page). I can open the page in IE or Firefox with no difficulty, but in the pagefetch program I get a time out. I can reach the printer from the development PC so it's not a connectivity issue, so I've prety well exhausted my bag o

Hello Rick,

I just tried the same sample to fetch the contents of this page:

 http://66.253.59.242/SSI/configuration_info.htm

To let you know, I have been able to fetch entire list of contents on this page.

As you also have to been to make it work on your development machine, so do you find any differences between these two machines? Does this machine use any Proxy Server?

I would also suggest you to check with the protocol sniffer to determine what commands IE or FireFox sends when requesting for the contents of this page.

Hi Amit,

Sorry I phrased that badly. I'm using IE/FF on the same machine that I'm running the pagefetch program on so I don't think it's relateed to the machine - or if it is it's also got something to do with the program.

I'm also running it in the IDE (not compiled) so perhaps that's making a difference - I'll check it when I get back to the office.

The dev machine is on the same network (I pinholed the firewall to the printer so it could be reached when I posted the question), and we're not running a proxy server.

Thanks again...

Hi Amit,

Still no luck. I've been able to cobble together something using the MS webbrowser control, but it's much slower than the web control (to say nothing of being subject to forced upgrade to IE7 which will do God knows what to the program), so I'd still like to get it working with the web control.

I did put together an installer for the pagefetch program and installed it on another computer not connected directly to that network. When I installed and ran it I got the same timeout message. I then checked the page with IE and Firefox on that computer and was able to open it with no trouble.

This got me wondering whether I've got the current version of the control and also whether I've possibly modified the pagefetch program in the past and forgot that I'd done it. Is there a way to check for updates to the control, and also to download the original pagefetch code (VB6)?

Thanks for all your help...

Hello Rick,

I tried it again today and got the same timeout error. It seems that the server is not sending the correct number of bytes so the connection times out waiting. I also tried with IE and it gives me the contents of the page, however this page always has the progress indicator spinning and thereafter we get an error message: “ParentMenu.Document is null or not an object. Still, the contents can be read. If you change IE settings to 1.0 then it works absolutely fine. After changing this setting, you may try to run the same sample and it should work fine.

If you are not looking to change this option, then you may try using our WebASP control (in Web Enterprise Tool). This control does allow user to set http version to 1.0. You may install this control from the following location:

http://dart.com/trial.aspx?prod=1610

If you are looking to know the version of control installed on your machine, then please follow the following steps:

(1) Click on Start, All Programs, Power TCP, Web Tool

(2) Now, click on DartNostics and then click on Create Report.

(3) In the text file, you may find the version of control installed.

Do let me know if you require further assistance/ clarifications.

Regards,
Amit
