Does anyone know what the most likely cause of Error 11101 - Unexpected protocol error is?

I'm using the Dart FTP control in VB6. I have a function which uploads a request file, waits for a load of files to be produced on the ftp server and downloads them as they appear. When all of the files have been produced a 'completed' file is put on the ftp site. When my function picks up that file it then uploads a log file which is a text file. At this point the user got this error. It doesn't happen every time hence i'm having trouble finding the cause.

Any help would be great thanks.
Regards,
Phil

Further to Error 11101;Unexpected protocol error, I am also getting:

10053 Software caused connection abort. An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine, possibly due to a data transmission timeout or protocol error. FATAL.

Also, I get a 3rd but I haven't been able to get the error number from any of our users yet.

Could it be something wrong with our FTP site (Bulletproof) rather than our App that uses DartFTP? However it should be noted that we didn't get these errors previously when using the standard MS API ftp commands.

Just as soon as I get the 3rd error number I will post a reply with it on.

Any help would be great thanks as my knowledge of FTP isn't that great.

Phil

Hello Phil,

I have read your query and it is my understanding that you are getting different error messages while uploading files to an FTP server.

If this is the said scenario, then please note that the said error messages could occur due to data transmission timeout or protocol error. I am unable to replicate the said scenario at my end; I would appreciate if you could provide us the following information so that we can narrow down the issue further:

(1) Are you able to replicate the said error message using our ListView sample? You may find this sample at the following location:

C:\Program Files\PowerTCP\FTP Tool\Samples\Vb6\ListView

(2) Please send us the Trace log for further review. You may always create a Trace log using the Trace method. The syntax for this method is as follows:

Object.Trace [ Result ] [ , Send ] [ , Receive ] [ , SendPrompt ] [ , ReceivePrompt ]

(3) Does the machine use any Proxy Server? If yes, does the application have proper proxy settings set?

Any further information to isolate the issue would be highly appreciated.

Have a nice day ahead.

Best Regards,
Amit

Thanks for your reply Amit.

#3 no proxy
#2 I'm going to try and get a trace log from a user when they get it and will upload it when I have it.
#1 As yet, I haven't managed to get it using the example program, however...

Part of our process produces loads of files which our program then downloads using the dart control, it isn't a manual process. The errors only appear now and again and have no pattern. If the user starts the process again it generally then works without a problem. The errors seem really sporadic.

I'll post some more info when I have it.

Regards,
Phil
