posted March 15, 2005 5:54 PM We rely on our clients to provide us the correct name of their email server when we implement our product at their site. We have ran into a couple of instances where the info they provided us was incorrect, the name was actually for a non-email server. I've done some testing, and the login command always results in a connected state whether the machine that is being logged into is an email server or not. We do not use usernames or passwords during the login command, just the server name. Is there a property that can be checked after the login to determine whether you are truly connected to an email server? We don't receive any error until attempting to do a send, and at that point, the error could be the result of some other issue. If we could determine that we are not logging into an email server based on information provided by the SMTP control, it would help us resolve the exact issue more efficiently. |
