A client of ours is concurrently using two versions of an app we developed for them, one version in PowerBuilder 6 and the other in PowerBuilder 7. The ole_ftp control is inserted on windows in both versions, and both versions are running on the same server where they have the FTP Tool registered. The PB6 app works fine, but when they try to FTP from with the PB7 app they get:

"Error accessing external object property type."

Are there any know issues with FTP Tool and PB7?

Hi Tammy,
Please see the following thread:

and make sure you have tried Tony's suggestion of cutting and pasting the components on the licensed machine.

I did see the thread above.... I copied and pasted the control on each of the 3 windows where it is used, and then recompiled, but no luck.

Some more details about my situation that may be helpful:

The PB6 app was developed on someone else's machine (with ftp too v 1.0.43.1). I originally compiled the PB7 app on my desktop pc (with ftp too v 1.0.43.1), but later moved development to my laptop (installed ftp tool v 1.5 and moved the registration there). I have tried the copy-paste-recompile on both my desktop and my laptop, and neither build works.

The client purchased their own license for FTP tool (v 1.0.43 I think), and it's installed and registered on the server where both apps run. Could we be seeing a version conflict here? Do they even need the tool installed and registered at all, or does it only need to be installed on the machine where the app is compiled?

Thanks,
Tammy Hein

It's not copy and paste, it's cut and paste. It's crucial that the control is removed. The way it works in PB is that when you insert the control, the license key is stored in the project. If you then take that project to another machine, it won't work because the license won't match.

Hope this helps!
