Topic: Missing Phonebook Entries

I'm experiencing problems with existing phonebooks on NT4 (new ones seem to be OK). Some entries that appear in the Dial-Up Networking dialog do not appear in the Ras component's PhoneBookEntries collection or UI. This happens with a VB6 application I wrote as well as with the sample Ras.vbp project.

I've looked through the phonebook entries and cannot see what the "hidden" entries have in common as opposed to the ones that appear.

Are there different versions of phonebook files or can .pbk files get corrupted somehow?

There must be something different. Maybe the missing entries were created by another account and you don't have permission to view them? I don't have any experience with pbk's so I can't give you a definitive answer.

Sorry,

Dear Tony,

Even we are facing identical problem - the O/S is Windows NT4 with service pack 4, and we're using Winsock Tool in a VB application. Though the system displays several phonebook entries, the Winsock Tool returns no phonebook entry.

I'm sorry, but I can't duplicate the problem with the info provided. Try installing SP6 and see what happens.

Dear Tony,

Thanks for a quick posting.

Unfortnutely, we've two identical NT servers in the premises - and on one it is not working and on the other it does. And we're too not able to replicate on the server where it is currently working. I'll try reapplying service pack 6 and revert.

Meanwhile, do you have any debug tactics to narrow down the problem area - if i could make the working machine simulate the problem??

Regards,

Nilesh

Unfortunately I do not have any suggestions.

Sorry,

I too am having issues whereby the RAS control does not list the entries that RASPHONE does. I am using XP Pro and it works OK on 1 machine but not on another.

What are the differences between the two machines?

The differences are a few applications are installed on the one that doesn't work but these are corporate apps that need to be there. I have done some testing and can query the DUN entries with the RASAPI32.dll calls so was wondering how the Winsock Tool RAS component does this. This is causing me major problems as i pruchased winsock tools to assist my custom app to rollout accross the company. Obviously i tested on different OS and has worked on all flavours but the XP version that doesn't work is a ghost image therefore all users have this version.

I don't think we are going to be able to resolve an issue that is this system specific on the forum. Please write directly to support@dart.com to see what can be done.
