Hi, I'm trying to unzip some files that appear to have been compressed and encrypted through WinZip 9.

When I call the Unzip method I get an error saying "The Encryption Algorithm used is not recognized by this DLL"

I can see that the .net version of this control says it can support this feature, is there an easy way of implementing this different control in VB6, or is there a fix/workaround for the ActiveX control? I would prefer to carry on using the ActiveX control as this is the licence we currently hold (and I've already written the program using it).

Hello Rich,

Unfortunately, the AES implementation that WinZip 9 uses is proprietary to them, as there was no real standard. In fact, even PKZip 2.5 uses their own specific flavor that isn’t compatible with anyone, including WinZip 9. That being said, when we created our .NET version, we decided to use the WinZip technique. We may add compatibility to WinZip 9 AES for the ActiveX product in the future if demand is there. The only recommendation that I can give you is to create a .NET ActiveX user control with Visual Studio .NET and call our .NET product inside of that control. At the present time there is no way to use the ActiveX Zip Compression Tool to decrypt an AES encrypted file that was created by WinZip 9. The only encryption compatibility is standard zip encryption. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Good luck on your project.

Rich,

If you are interested in going the .NET route, contact sales@dart.com. Sorry we couldn't be of help otherwise.
