posted May 11, 2004 11:39 AM In reference to thread posted by jdalryple on 4/30, and previous thread by myself. If I bring up outlook 2000 and compose an email to an internal and external recipient, both are delivered succesfully. If i do the same from the mail tool only the internal email is delivered, the other goes nowhere and does not generate an error condition. Both applications reference the same exchange server (we have only one). I've tried using the quicksend method and the send method both with the same results. I am using VFP6.0 to incorporate the control onto a form. We are expecting the control to communicate and send mail through any mail platform without requiring changes to the mail servers. Thanks in advance. - John |

posted May 11, 2004 11:50 AM This problem would have to be addressed by the person responsible for your email server. If the mail is not going out, there has to be a reason. There must be a log that can be checked to determine why. |

posted May 11, 2004 4:24 PM Yes, the reason is that Exchange refuses to relay the message. Now the question is why does it work fine from outlook client but not mailtool? In the exchange system manager -> server -> protocols -> smtp, right click on the virtual smtp server and select properties. Click Access tab then Relay. My server defaults to having "only the list below" selected, with the list being empty. Below the listbox is a checkbox to allow anyone who succesfully authenticates to relay regardless of the list above. Great, this explains why outlook relays fine, because apparently it is authenticating, but why doesn't the mailtool? If I put an entry in the list with my specific IP, then it works fine, but again, why is this step nescesary considering the checkbox mentioned above is selected? Thanks for you assistance, - John |

posted June 4, 2004 6:34 PM Is this a recent change to Exchange Servers? I have never had this problem before, but I notice with my latest version of Exchange 2003 Server that it doesn't relay unless the username and password are set. |

posted June 4, 2004 7:34 PM I don't use Exchange server so I can't say for sure. But it would make sense. Microsoft's 2003 line of products is security oriented by default. |
