posted April 25, 2004 10:07 PM I'm using the webserver with PDAs [Dell Axim 3i] - using the built-in browser on the PDA. Works fine at home, but when I tried to use it near another wireless network, the PDA wouldn't connect to the webserver. The "GET" and "POST" commands weren't seen - but - it still showed an error after a while - 10052 or 10053 I think - indicating that some sort of connection existed. Not sure this is a WebServer Control issue. |

posted April 26, 2004 8:52 AM That sounds like the connection is immediately getting closed. Is it possible that this is happening at the Network level before the Webserver? Maybe it's some kind of security issue? |

posted April 27, 2004 12:07 AM It turns out another network was not involved. The only thing I know of that changed between when it worked and when it didn't is that I bought a license and did the registration process. I didn't even reinstall the program, just added the registration key. It seems really unlikely / weird that registration would cause this sort of problem, but since then, nothing I do makes it work from the PDA any more. I tried one of the original demonstration programs, and it behaves the same as my application - the only hint there's any activity is when I get the 10053 error, which happens several seconds before the PDA finally says it can't find the page. I put hooks into the SessionInit and other similar places, but apparently only the Error event fires. The application works fine at 127.0.0.1, and even at the IP address assigned to the wireless interface [from the PC side, not from the PDA side.] I can see a number of packets transmitted and received when I try to connect with the PDA. The PDA says it's connected to the wireless network. Any hint how I can find out what's wrong? Something I haven't tried yet is to de-install the program, re-install it in demo mode and see if the problem goes away. Is that worth a shot? |

posted April 27, 2004 12:24 AM I just tried uninstalling / reinstalling, but it kept both the registration key and the problem. I have no idea what to do next. |

posted April 27, 2004 7:30 AM Is there anyone there with a knowledge of your network and its policies? I have never encountered a network like you describe and no one has ever reported a similar problem to what you are having. |

posted April 27, 2004 10:09 AM I'm the only one here, network policy is pretty basic. I'd be happy to provide any specifics, email screenshots, etc. The network consists of a notebook computer with a Linksys Wireless-B [USB] adapter, and a PDA. I've disconnected from the internet so I can try stuff like turning off the antivirus for a bit. The wireless adapter is set at a static IP address. The wireless network is set up as an "ad-hoc" computer-to-computer network. All adapters on the PDA are set with various static IP addresses in the same range. I am just now trying another experiment: Install Tomcat and compare behavior.... [time passes] It would appear the problem is similar under Apache, so this is apparently not a problem in the webserver control. I'd still vastly appreciate any advice - I asked Dell how to configure their PDA to talk to an intranet, the technical support [someone in India] told me how to Hotsynch the PDA with Outlook. ----------------------------------------------- On a completely different subject: I saw someone on the forum asking how to do .ASP. I'm using the MS Scripting control to provide an environment similar to Active Server Pages - scripted pages in external text files. It works great. I use the .ASP extension so my text editor properly colorizes the VBScript, HTML, and Javascript in the ".asp" files. |

posted April 27, 2004 11:04 AM Hi again! Problem solved. WebServer control Not Guilty! Problem caused by "bridge" in Network Connections. Removed bridge. Everything works fine. |

posted April 27, 2004 11:08 AM Thanks for the follow up. I guess it's OK to burn bridges sometimes. |

posted April 29, 2004 8:43 AM One last thing - I found I also had to set up the address for the wireless adapter in a different range than my other IP addresses, and as near as I can tell, the addresses assigned to the adapter on the PDA are irrelevant... |
