I get this error 30 days after installing on a production server.

"Error 12029,The attempt to connect to the server failed"

The app was compiled using VB 6 and is an ActiveX component used on an ASP page.

Application: Web Tool

Thanks Niall

Do you have a valid license number? Did you follow the instructions for distribution under IIS in the Online help?

Thanks for the response. Yes I do have a valid license and have followed the instructions for distribution under IIS. I have compiled the application, had the customer install it, had the customer check the registry key, and it is there.

Then it most likely has nothing to do with the 30 days. In that case the error is self explanatory. I can't really say why the attempt failed.

What happens if you handled the error and try again later?

I agree that I don't think it is the 30-day period. By the way, would I receive an error message if the 30 days were up? i.e. a nagger screen. Since this is an ASP page, if there is a nagger screen would it appear on the IIS server?

This has been going on since Jan 15th, so it has been a while. I wonder if it is Proxy related. I know that they do go through a Proxy.

Thanks

If it was the trial expiring, the page would just error out on the load, when it Creates the control.

Not sure if it's proxy related. That's something only you can debug at your end.

If you are unable to resolve this, try contacting our support dept directly.

Thanks.

Our customer has been down since the 15th and is getting anxious. He seems to think it is a licensing issue since this has happened "exactly" 30 days after initial install. If a trial version was installed, then expired and then a licensed version installed, should everything work? Is the registry key the only difference between trial and licensed version?

Yes. I'm sorry to have even brought up trials. The very fact that you are getting an error 12029 means that the object was created. If licensing failed you would not have gotten that far.

Something must have changed on their network.
