Two problems generating test certificates, either with the Certificate Manager or programmatically with CreateCert.

I'm running XP SP1.

1) If the system date is > 11/30/2003, certificate vaild from/to dates are always current date. Lifetime is ignored. If system date is earlier, from/to dates are as expected. I can reproduce this 100% of the time by simply changing my system date.

2) In the MMC Certificates snap-in, any certificate I create is flaged with a red "X" and the certificate status is "This certificate has an nonvalid digital signature." The generated CA trust certificate does NOT have this problem, only the actual certificate itself.

Is anyone else able to generate fully valid test certificates with the PowerTCP SSL tools? If so, how?

The PowerTCPTest doesn't have problem #2. How was it created?

The Test Certificate feature was meant to be used as a quick way to get up and running. Obviously you have unearthed some problem with process an XP that we will need to look into.

In the meantime you have two choices. I'll start with the easiest:

1) If you have a windows server product, it comes with Microsoft Certificate Services. Install that and you can be your own Certificate Authority and create as many certs as you want.

2) You can get test certificates from Versign.

Thanks. I figured that would be your answer, I was just hoping not to have to mess with any of our production servers.

I was able to confirm #1 and have reported it as issue #2210. I can't confirm #2 but I am hoping that if we fix #1 , #2 will also be fixed for you.

If you want to check on the progress of the issue, please contact our support dept directly via email or phone. Again , the issue is #2210.
