posted November 6, 2003 5:23 AM I have purchased a PowerTcp web-tool to use it with the platform Microsoft Business Solutions Attain, as an integrated component of a web-replicator solution. It seems to work fine, running on my developement computer. However, if I try to install the application at the customers pc - it still seems to be a trial version (30 days)running. I have installed the lates version of PowerTcp on the customer computer. I have tried to copy DartSock.dll and DartWeb.dll to the windos\system32 folder on the customers computer, and performed regsvr32.exe for both components afterwards, but still the license seems to be a trial version. I have entered the key: Web Tool [reg_sz] +licence number in registry on the customers computer, but still it won't work. MBS attain has a built in development environment / with it's own programming language. When distributing application objects to a customer, they are imported into the database. I guess they are compiled again at this moment. What is the solution, to make this work.. ? |

posted November 6, 2003 8:42 AM In that situation you would need to have a development license installed. Any time the app needs to be compiled a development license is required. Is there a fixed number of targets you are deploying this to? |

posted November 6, 2003 8:52 AM 06.11.2003 : For the time being, we only have one customer running the solution, but if we succeed here we will probably be able to sell to solutions to other customers ( it is hard to estimate the number but approx. 10-20 ). Another question : If I connect my development-computer to the customers network, logon as a client to their MBS Attain server and compile new versions of the web-replicator application connected to their network, will the webTool then run properly if the licence key is added to their registry file (by using regedit) or will there still be a problem after 30 days with trial version (this method will be a kind of workaround - if it works -- but will not be the perfect way to do it in the long run...) |

posted November 6, 2003 9:26 AM You won't be able to use the same reg key from your computer if you are compiling. Whenever compiling is required (or the object is used in development mode) an actual license needs to be there. I'll have someone from our sales dept contact you with some info on options. |

posted November 7, 2003 2:29 AM Then,we have bought a product with right to distribute with no royalty of any kind, which means that we have to buy a new product whenever we need to use it... Maybe, we should use Mabry's HTTP component instead, which has an own property for licence key : "Some development environments are unable to correctly use ActiveX control licensing interfaces. Most environments (Visual Basic included) also fail to provide a way to handle licenses for COM objects. The LicenseKey provides a way to get around these problems. If your development environment does not handle licensing correctly, you may be able to place the control on a form or create the COM object without error. However, prior to being able to modify properties or execute methods, you will need to assign a valid license key string to the LicenseKey property." |

posted November 7, 2003 9:04 AM There are other options available. Someone from our sales department should be contacting you via email to discuss them. |
