Topic: What's up with the non-.NET tools?

I just did another look-over of the updates listing, and it looks like none of the non-.NET tools have been touched in nearly a year. Is the non-NET stuff dead, or what?

I've been hoping to see improvements in the mouse-click handling for quite some time, and I've seen plenty of other complaints about the control having issues, but nothing seems to be done with it. Are there any updates planned for these controls anytime soon?

Hello,

Thanks for the question. The products use multiple dlls and not all get updated when a change is made. Also, the unified update.exe is slowly getting phased out, so for some products you must always download the product installation. That list is available on http://www.dart.com/support/updatecenter.asp . The Emulation Tool, for example, was updated in September, but the dlls in the update.exe were not.

Unfortunately, as much as we would like, we can't always address every problem that is reported. We priorititize issues based on severity, number of users potentially impacted, number of times reported, and user's support level. That doesn't mean that a particular problem will never get addressed, but when we create a release schedule for a product update, that formula is used to decide what will be included. Customers do have the option of purchasing a support package to prioritize their particular issue. If that option interests you, please email sales@dart.com.

Best Regards,

That's fine, but shouldn't the tool-related "Latest Updates" indicate that? The version numbers in there don't even match the number on the emulation tool page, so I don't know what has changed.

I just installed the new version 1.8.1 of the emulation tools, and tried it out. I'm getting some very broken results with color control that didn't exist in the older controls.

When using ANSI colors that change the background color, it looks like the control keeps the background color instead of reverting to defaults one it's set. So, I get a default background color of whatever color was last render as a background, that differed from the default. This is VERY broken.

Thoughts?

Please send a sample project that duplicates the probem. Ideally this should be a VB app with a VT on a form. When I push a button it should display the data that you feel is incorrect.

Please zip up this sample and email it to support@dart.com with the subject "Files for topic 3604"

Hello,

In response to your previous question, the version on the Product Page is the version of the actual installation kit. Because a product uses multiple dlls, the versions will differ from the installation kit. One of the reason we are obsoleting the update.exe is to limit the confusion. In the future, users will be able to just reference the installation kit version if they wish. Latest Updates just makes notes of major product changes. You can use Recent Patches on the right-hand side to see the list of technical changes in every version, which are often not represented in Latest Updates.

In reply to Latest updates -- I see NOTHING about ANY updates ANYWHERE since late 2002 on the VT emulation components. However, there are some major changes from what I'm seeing, especially in color support. The cursor is now in an "inverse" color from the background, and background colors are broken.

In reply to getting a sample: is there a way to generate a capture of raw data so I can supply a data trace for you to try in the emulation component?

If you are getting the Data from a telnet control, then you would call:

Telnet.Trace "c:\darttrace.log", False, True

This will give you a file containing everything that was received.

Tracing:

I just wrote my own :-)

I have sent a demo. It explodes under 1.8.1, and works under 1.8.0.4. It's a compiled delphi application that throws the included text file into the control using reads and writes. In 1.8.1, you see red all over the place. In 1.8.0.4, you see a proper blue background (the control properly revets to "default background color").

I have seen other issues of color control flaws with this control, but I honestly can't say for sure either way whether it's the result of the vt control, or the Vermont Views code that my UNIX application is based upon.

I just double-checked the updates page for the Emulation component:

http://www.dart.com/support/updatebyproduct.asp

The last update shown here is 1.8.0.4. So, something is very broken in the update revision listing script as well, unless someone never bothered to enter the 1.8.1 changes into the updates database.

I got the demo and have confirmed the problem. Actually the issue has already been logged.

It's issue #2046.

Contact support@dart.com directly for details on the resolution.

I see the update listings were updated. I KNEW stuff changed in the VT emulator :-)

Thank you for updating these listings. They are absolutely vital for those of us who like to be on the bleeding edge.
