posted October 21, 2003 5:27 PM Hello I'm trying the trial for C#. Works well but some servers require an indent response. How to solve that? Also some servers don’t quit as expected and some process seems to get stuck, have to close program to get out of it and dispose doesn’t help. Thx. |

posted October 21, 2003 5:34 PM What is an "indent response?" Also, if something is not working like you'd expect, please explain the steps that must be taken to duplicate the problem. |

posted October 21, 2003 7:18 PM Found this at http://identd.dyndns.org/identd/rfc1413.txt 'The Identification Protocol (a.k.a., "ident", a.k.a., "the Ident Protocol") provides a means to determine the identity of a user of a particular TCP connection. Given a TCP port number pair, it returns a character string which identifies the owner of that connection on the server's system. The Identification Protocol was formerly called the Authentication Server Protocol. It has been renamed to better reflect its function. This document is a product of the TCP Client Identity Protocol Working Group of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)." |

posted October 21, 2003 10:00 PM That's not related to FTP. As far as I know, identd is a part of the stack. It's a service that responds to queries on port 113. |

posted October 21, 2003 10:50 PM It may not be part of FTP but still some servers require it. This I found on http://www.flashfxp.com/help/. “Ident Server FlashFXP can act as an ident server and sends the specified User ID and System as identification. This server will be more useful to some people than others. Note: Some ftp servers might refuse a connection if there is no reply to an ident request.” |

posted October 22, 2003 9:11 AM I suppose you could use the Server control from the Sockets for .NET product to write your own identd server if you wanted to. |
