What is the max length a piece of data can be to be POSTED to a web server. the xmlhttp object appears to be about 1500 bytes. i am looking for an alternative to xmlhttp which support posting large xml documents.

There's no limit at our end. If the server allows it, you can post as much as you want. Some servers limit this to avoid potential Denial of Service attacks.
