When testing a demo of the Sockets for .Net on a system running either Win98/Me/NT4, the tcp client hangs following a connection to a host. The exact same executeable works fine under WinXP/2000.

This issue looks to be an identical problem that the n-Software IPWorks.net has with the same results.

Please provide more details on what you mean by "hangs". I just loaded the most recent framework on a 98-SE machine and ran the TcpClient and I did not see any problems.

I agree. The TCPClient app works fine. I duplicated the problem using my current application which connects to a TCP/IP server application. I'll try to reduce the problem down to the basic components and work up an example that exhibits the problem

Tony
I've uploaded an installation copy of our application to the following site:

http://www.genesysinc.com/forexdirect/forexdirect_dart.zip

This version (4.1.350.22933) is built using a 30-day demo version of the Dart Sockets tool. Install and run this version on both a WinXP/2000 and Win98/NT4 system to see the problem. When asked for a login user Guest/Guest (Note: Run the demo on Mon when the financial markets re-open)

The WinXP/2000 should run without problems. However, when you run it on a Win98/NT machine, the application will hang soon after the connection is made.

From what n-Software (IPWorks) support tells me, the application hangs on a Win98/NT system due to the way in which Win98 GUI updates/refreshes the screen. If you have another application active, switch between the ForexDirect app and the other app, and sooner (or later), the Win98 GUI will continue the refresh of the ForexDirect system.

Hope this helps

When I run it, I get a dialog that says "ForexDirect starting..." with a progress bar that is stuck a 10%.

I think we're going to have to kepp your app out of this for now. Let's just focus on the problem that you are describing. Please create a simple program that demonstrates the problem without all the other stuff.

Once you do that, zip up the project and email it to support@dart.com with complete instructions.

Thanks.

OK, when I went to shut down the machine, I noticed that the program was hanging at our trial message because I could not dismiss the window being blocked by your banner.

Once I installed a trial, I got past that and indeed I see the "hanging" you mention.

The problem is, how am I supposed to know what's causing it? Isn't there some way you can isolate this down to simple code that we can use here?

I'll see if I can 'distill' the app down to the problem level

This now works correctly under .Net Framework 1.1 I'm considering this closed
