I tried uploading your flash chat client to a webserver and talking back to the server app. I cannot get it to connect even though the server is not behing the firewall. What could be the problem?

It appears that Macromedia's XMLSocket object will not connect to any server other than a domain the movie file originated from. Check these links for more info.

This is a security mechanism that Macromedia put into place, and definately not a problem with Sockets for .NET. Looks like your web server and flash server have to be the same machine (or at least the same subdomain name, see the first link above for examples of compatible domains).
