posted December 19, 2002 6:25 AM Hi, Has there been any update on the licence issue when using the component in a non-Winforms application? I remember an admin mentioning you were working on some work-around but I've not seen anything lately. |

posted December 19, 2002 7:22 AM Hello, Yes, Microsoft provided us additional code to enable licensing support in Web Services and the version is now available for download. What kind of application are you building? Thanks, Alex Gladshtein Dart Communications |

posted December 19, 2002 8:02 AM I need to use the component in a multi-tier application. One part of the system is a component (.dll) that handles all kinds of services, including sending/receiving files from a specific server. That component is then used by a Windows Service that is controlled via Remoting. We have allready bought the component several weeks ago. It was chosen over other components because of: features, documentation and good layout.. but if it's only possible to use it in Winforms, ASP.NET or Web Services it's 100% useless to us so please tell me that's not the case :) |

posted December 19, 2002 8:54 AM I'm not using it directly in a Windows Service, the Windows Service itself just acts as a "host" for the Remoting objects, sets up the remoting environment (ports, endpoints) etc. I'm getting this error when trying to use the component which uses the FTP component: "If this is a server-based application, you must install this product on your platform to enable the 30-day trial license. If this is a compiled application, you must add 'Dart.PowerTCP.Ftp.Ftp, Dart.PowerTCP.Ftp' to the licenses.licx file in your project. If your project does not have a licenses.licx file already, you must create one and add it." I have added a .licx file to the class library project with that text, and even tried copying a .licx file from a Winforms project, but nothing works! This is compiled on a machine with a valid license and I even get this error when running it on that same machine. So I guess my basic question is: Is it not possible to use the FTP.NET component in a class library project? if it's not then it really has limited use for us since almost all our projects are distributed multi-tier/layer applications and I find the notion of having to use a Web Service for inhouse services absurd. |

posted December 19, 2002 9:03 AM Hi, Yes it is. Be sure you are using the latest version of the Tool, and that our component is included in the licx file for your dll, as well as any project using the dll. -ken |

posted December 19, 2002 9:07 AM Thank you, that seems to have done the job and is really logical once I think about it :) |

posted March 11, 2003 1:32 PM Hi - can I suggest that when the documentation is updated for the new version, that it be made clear that if adding the FTP component to a DLL, the licx file needs to be added to the EXE or any other component that calls the DLL as this is not at all clear from the existing documentation and I just drove myself mad for two hours trying to figure out what was wrong, before reading this thread on the support forum. Thanks |

posted March 12, 2003 9:45 AM Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. We will be adding info to this effect in future releases of the Tool. -ken |

posted October 21, 2003 11:16 AM i don't know if this has beed added to the documentation, but if it has, I missed it. i experienced the same problem (licensing error when running in a Windows Service environment) and could not figure out what was wrong until i found this thread. adding the licx file to the host exe fixed it (apparently having the licx file in the dll that references the Dart component wasn't enough). anyway, just wanted to add my $.02 to encourage you to add this to the docs if you haven't done so already. |
