posted May 2, 2001 5:28 PM I'm using 1.0.31.2 of the PowerTCP FTP Control and am having a problem with the original files after that've been FTPed. My app (VB6) creates the files (on a Win NT 4 SP6 w/Option Pack 4) and then notifies its client that the files exist. The client app FTPs the files and then tells my app that it's done. My app then deletes the files. My app receives no error, so it thinks the files are really gone, but they aren't. Once this happens, the files can't be deleted via Windows File Explorer either (Access Error) and they can't be used (double-clicking a TXT file and NotePad reports an "Access Error"). The only way to get rid of them is to bounce the "IIS Admin Service". Once it comes down all the FTPed files magicaly disappear. If my app creates the file, then I manually FTP the files, through the old DOS FTP command line interface, and then my app deleted the files, everything's fine. The only time's there's a problem is when the FTP control touches the file. Is this a problem that anyone's ever hear of before? Does anyone have an explaination as to what's happening here. What could the FTP control possibly be saying to the FTP service that would cause the files to behave in this bizzare fashion? I know the obvious answer is to upgrade to the latest version, but I thought I at least check to see if this is a known problem. Maybe there was even a fix for a problem similar to this. posted May 3, 2001 10:59 AM Tony, Do you have any idea where I might be able to find supporting information for this IIS bug? I've tried to search Microsoft, but have come up empty so far. Do you know if there's a fix for it? In my experiance the file does not go away "after a while" as you state. My files stay around for days and days, until I stop the IIS Admin Service. Also, if it is an IIS bug, why would it matter what tool I use on the client side to perform the FTPing? As I said, if I use the DOS command-line FTP, there does not appear to be any problem, but if I use the DART FTP tool, the files refuse to delete. Do you have any idea why this IIS bug is sensitive to the FTP technique being used? As I remember, your FTP tool asks the FTP service for the size of the file to be downloaded in advance of actually downloading it. (I've had folks who've had to update their server because the SIZE request fails on older FTP servers) Could it be that the IIS failure is in this area? Bill |

All I know is if I use IE to connect and delete the file, the same thing happens. IE does not show the file as being there, but it is is. Sorry I could not help further. Tony |
