posted August 15, 2002 11:32 AM Very strange problem. When trying to access and download files Using dartftp everything is fine (win 98/win 2000) using dartweb everything is fine (win 98) very slow on windows 2000 seti@home version 3.03 causes no problems on windows 98 but on windows 2000 brings dartweb to a crawl. Our best guess is that dartweb is not pushing windows 2000 in a way to moves seti@home out of the way. On windows 98 whatever program is "on top" takes control. We have tried the latest dartsock.dll and dartweb.dll and it makes no difference. If we disable seti@home while dartweb is accesing internet then the speed jumps back to normal. I hope this makes sense. Thanks, Kevin Kochman |

posted August 15, 2002 1:05 PM I believe you can change the priority of Seti@Home? |

posted August 16, 2002 9:59 AM The priority is already set at low. The strange thing is this only happens on Windows 2000 and only with dartweb.dll - no problems with dartftp. |

posted August 16, 2002 1:47 PM Without being to much of a pain, could someone there try downloading seti@home - http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/index.html and try your pagefetch example? It downloads and install quick - removes just as quickly. |

posted August 16, 2002 2:07 PM We've tried a few tests with SETI@home here. The first time the web tool tries it timesout, on the second try it works fine. One issue is that we are using WinInet in this tool and not in any of the other tools, plus because WinInet is blocking we are running it in a seperate thread. Our Web Enterprise tool includes components that have the same functionality as the Web Tool without using WinInet. Give that a try and see if you get the same errors. In the meantime, we'll try to isoloate the problem on this end and see if we can do something fix it. Have you tried calling the SETI people? |

posted August 16, 2002 3:21 PM Thanks for confirming the issue. I have posted messages on a couple of seti boards, but no real luck as this message. We will try the enterprise version. |

posted October 8, 2002 3:57 PM We did download the Web Enterprise verions but are not sure if it really used the new dll's We tried the WebAlive sample and the same problem occurs. Have you all tried the Web Enterprise with Seti? If so did it work any better? Thanks, Kevin |

posted October 8, 2002 4:23 PM Hi Kevin, The WebAlive sample uses the same Http component (the Web Enterprise Tool includes both the Http control found in the Web Tool, and the WebAsp control, which is what Jon was referring to). Try one of the WebAsp control samples (for example, PageFetch), and see if the results are different. -ken |

posted October 8, 2002 5:33 PM Pagefetch works fine - no delays. We are looking into upgrading the Web Tool license to Web Enterprise. We will post a message Thanks again for your help |
