posted June 11, 2002 9:33 PM Gentlemen, I have a product that has been released recently using the Dart Webtool. I have ONE customer reporting that he cannot get a connection to the file server. The Web Tool is giving an error 12002, miscellaneous error. When I looked up this error code in the help file, 12002 was not listed. Great! Unfortunately this customer also has my competitors product on his system too (that being an IP Works based system), and it has no problems. Also, he has no problem accessing the web with his IE browser. What in the world is this? Any idea under what conditions this occurs? I will confirm that the latest version of the web tool was used. Again, this is the only user that is having this problem. Also, he has two systems that are BOTH doing the same thing. One is a Win 95 machine (laptop), the other is a desktop Win 98 system. Any info here would be helpful... Many Thanks, John ----> Here's a diagnostic state dump from the user - note that the 12002 error occurs when the tool is starting a connection: HTTP State Change: 06/11/02 - 13:04:58 Code= 1 Starting Request(1). posted June 12, 2002 8:38 AM John, If you try this same application with the updated Web tool do you get the same problems? http://www.dart.com/powertcp/web.asp The 12002 error should be taken care of in the new release. Let me know if you have further difficulties. J. Belanger |

posted June 12, 2002 11:02 AM Jon, Thanks. I looked at the version and noticed that one of the componets was updated. I'm going to run some tests today and see what's going on. The user is using Earthlink for and ISP and is using the Earthlink dialer. He's going to create a Win DUN and see if that works. Meanwhile, I have another user with Earthlink close by who is upgrading to the new version of this product today. I'll go install myself and run some tests and see if I can re-create this problem. I'll then install the updated components and check results. I'll post results later... Thanks |

posted July 12, 2002 5:29 PM Gentlemen, Well, this problem is still a problem, however, now I have MANY users that are reporting the same error (sales are up!) I have redistributed the latest version of the WebTool and several users are now reporting the 12002 error. So far, here's what I've learned: 1) This is independent of the ISP being used'. 2) This ONLY occurs with dial-up networking. 3) NO users with a broadband Internet connection are having this problem - so far... 4) Using my own dial-up connection, I cannot duplicate this problem. What I need to know is what triggers the "Miscelaneous Error" when the Https component is connecting to the server (as shown in the dump above) so I can get an idea of what the problem is on these users' systems. I have a potential customer base of between 2,000 and 4,000, so it's VERY important that I get to the bottom of this quickly before somebody lets the air out of my tires... or worse! ;) Thanks! |

posted July 15, 2002 9:49 AM Hi, Our Web control uses the wininet.dll, and we report the errors it raises. According to MSDN, 12002 is a Request Timeout error. The first thing you should try is increasing the Http.Timeout value. You may also want to use a protocol sniffer to compare IE's communication with the server, to that of the control. At the bottom of the following post is a link to an easy-to-use trial sniffer: http://support.dart.com/postings?topicid=2092&search=1 This can be used with both IE and the Http control. Hope this helps, -ken |
