I am using the FTP component from an ASP.NET application, and don't see in the docs any instructions for doing the redistribution to the web server. Do I just copy the DLL or what?

On a separate and less important topic, while I like the Dynamic Help integration feature, it does seem to limit my ability to search the help content. In future versions, you might consider making a standalone help file in addition to the dynamic help.

Thanks!

Hi,
In the help, under "Getting Started" there is a page entitled, "Deployment In ASP.NET" that describes the necessary steps.

You can access the stand-alone help file by clicking "Online Help" in the PowerTCP for .NET program group.

That worked, thanks. But I have a request that I probably should've made while you were still in Beta with this.

Context
If I'm deploying this to a managed host web server, the odds of me getting them to install this new software on a box shared by other customers are very low.

BUT, if I could just copy the DLLs and then provide a license key at runtime through code, then I could drop the component in the appropriate directory on my slice of the web server, and there wouldn't be any problems. Quiksoft takes an approach similar to this with their e-mail components, and it has made life much easier when dealing with third-party hosts. And also you're not at risk of losing control of the licensing this way.

Please let me know what you think....in the meantime, I will try to bribe my web hosting people or look for a different FTP control.

Thanks!

Hi,
Requiring registration on the server was not how licensing was intended to work. Since projects in ASP for .NET are now compiled, the license should be part of the resulting dll. Unfortunately, due to a licensing bug in ASP.NET, that is not the case. We therefore had to come up with a workaround, and this was the approach we decided on.

The problem with adding a license property is that one would be able to use any valid license in a project, including those that were obtained illegally.

If you do not want to install the entire Tool on the server, you should be able to just run the Registration utility on it and be ok. It can be copied over from the development machine.
