posted April 4, 2002 3:28 PM We upload a files with student names, addresses and emails. These are students who will have their picture taken by us at a graduation, prom, etc. After the shoot, we email them their proofs. Sometimes the email provided is wrongly formatted such as wrlucas2it-pma.com instead of wrlucas@it-pma.com. Other times it is correctly formatted but it is not a valid email address. When we execute the SMTP.Send command on a wrongly formatted email the routine crashes. Can we have it just resume on the next email? When we execute the SMTP.Send command on a properly formatted but invalid email, the routine also crashes. Does the mail tool ping for a valid server before sending. If so can we by pass this ping? We are sending 200 - 900 emails at a time and do not want to have to start over because of 1 or 2 bad emails. |

posted April 4, 2002 5:59 PM Hi, Yes, you can have it resume with your list after a bad email. Your program will have to be written to do so. No, it does not check the recipient's server prior to sending the email to your Smtp server. You could call Smtp.Verify prior to sending it, but there is no guarantee that the result will be correct. If you need help structuring your program to do these things, please contact us at support@dart.com. -ken K M Drake Dart Tech Support |
