Hi.. I'm testing your component to access mailboxes in a Exchange server from ASP or VB.

It works cool, but I can't open any mailbox containing the spanish char "ñ"... is there any workaround ?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Are you able to access such a box if it was created with our Imap client?
When I create a Mailbox with "ñ" it is encoded on the server as "&APE-" and when accessing it, the control automatically encodes and decodes the character.
It sounds like the client that created the box did not encode the name. You should still be able to access the box by using the Command method to send commands directly, without the encoding.

I think I didn't explain myself :)

When I speak about "mailbox" its the username in the .login function... my username has a "ñ" char ... how do I workaround this ?

Thanks in advance (again)

Hi,
It is not possible. It is against protocol to have non-ASCII characters in your address. You should get a new account.
Sorry,

I'm pretty sure its not... since I can IMAP with Outlook Express to that same account :)

Do you mean that YOUR component can't do it? Since Outlook Express can do it, can't be a protocol issue.

Thanks again

I think that we can get this working, but we'll need some help from you. Please write to support@dart.com and provide a trace of a session where the login fails.

Thanks,

I think I'm gonna do something even better...

I sniffed outlook express' packets while connecting to my exchange server in IMAP mode and found the way it uses to log... here it goes:
----------------------------------------------
a001 capability
* CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 IDLE LITERAL+ LOGIN-REFERRALS MAILBOX-REFERRALS NAM
ESPACE AUTH=NTLM
a001 OK CAPABILITY completed.

a001 login {9}
+ Ready for additional command text.
albariñoj mypassword
a001 OK LOGIN completed.

-----------------------------------------------

Note that the 1st login line has a {9} ... I found that's the length of the username

I made this with Telnet and works cool... but, I can't do this with your component... I tried to use a

IMAP.login server, "{" & len(user) & "}" & vbcrlf & user, password

This didn't work...

I can't use either IMAP.command since I'm not yet connected (and your component forces a login to connect).

Guess you'll have to open a "socket" property to access to the IMAP component's socket directly or something in that way...

Tell me what you find about it.. I'm very interested.

Thanks again

Thanks for your fast response...

The only thing I wanna know is if the fix for this issue will take much long, because I need to start coding my e-mail website right now, and want to know if I should be using your components or not, since I tested 2 or 3 of the available ones and yours is the best (even though it lacks some nifty utilities like sorting the messages and mailboxes collections and stuff like that)

Hello,
A developer has been assigned to examine the problem next week. Unless there is some unexpected situation we will probably have a beta with the fix sometime next week. Any other feedback you can provide, especially concerning what you feel are deficiencies in the IMAP implementation would be greatly appreciated. Our best features come from user feedback.

Best Regards,
